Saudi Arabia is now home to two of the World's Greatest Places
Another win for AlUla…
TIME just revealed the sixth instalment of its annual World’s Greatest Places List, and the selection highlights some of the most exceptional travel destinations in the world. Two Saudi Arabian destinations are now also on the list of the World’s Greatest Places.
Last year, the list only featured 50 places, but in 2024, the list was expanded to include more specific establishments and wonderful destinations to visit and stay at this year.
When it comes to the two Saudi Arabian destinations on the World’s Greatest Places list, both locations can be found in the glorious AlUla setting. Let’s take a look at what made the cut.
Dar Tantora
Located in AlUla’s Old Town and operated by Kerten Hospitality, Dar Tantora is an eco-hotel hotel that gives you a wonderful sense of history and an authentic old AlUla experience. With limited electricity, the rooms are naturally ventilated and illuminated by candlelight, creating a serene and eco-friendly ambience.
The boutique hotel rooms were made from delicately restored mudbrick buildings. There are 30 earth-clad dars (rooms) and suites, an infinity pool, a gym, a yoga and meditation studio, and a spa.
Room rates at Dar Tantora(named after AlUla’s famous sundial) The House Hotel start from SAR1,200 per night, based on single occupancy (summer rates), including breakfast and all taxes.

Sharaan Nature Reserve
Tucked away in the north of AlUla and covering an area of 1,500 square kilometres, the gorgeous Sharaan Nature Reserve is a treasure trove of natural wonders. Responsible for the preservation and protection of endangered animals such as Arabian wolves, gazelles and large-eared red foxes, the reserve also aims to reintroduce the critically endangered Arabian leopard.
When here, you can book a Sharaan Vintage Safari experience where you will be driven through red-rock canyons, broad valleys, open desert areas and rocky outcrops. Sit back and reconnect with nature as you discover ancient rock inscriptions and natural sandstone structures.
