Rally the troops – Roka’s shabu-shabu night is all we need for a happy meal
Here’s introducing the art of Japanese hotpot at your table…
When one hears of “Japanese food”, the first thing that comes to mind is either sushi or ramen. But Japanese cuisine is actually so varied that there is more to it than just the usual sushi, sashimi, tempura, and ramen.
Another popular Japanese food is shabu-shabu. If you’ve never heard of nor had shabu-shabu, then you’re in for a treat.
Roka, the contemporary Japanese robatayaki restaurant, is launching an exciting new dining experience – the shabu-shabu night – beginning on Wednesday October 16, and it will satisfy meat-loving connoisseurs and hotpot enthusiasts.

But first, what is shabu-shabu?
Shabu-shabu is a traditional Japanese hotpot meal in which diners cook their own ingredients at the table. The name “shabu-shabu”, meaning “swish swish” in Japanese, captures the sound of ingredients swirling in the pot.
It features a flavourful broth, and all you have to do is dunk premium slices of Wagyu beef and fresh vegetables in the soup until they cook.
When Wagyu beef is simmered in the broth, it does not only retain its tenderness and freshness but also releases its aroma into the soup, enhancing the flavour of the entire dish.
The desired degree of doneness of the beef can be adjusted by how long you cook it in the hot broth. Once everything is cooked, it is then served with house-made dipping sauces, which perfectly complement the delicate flavours.

Available at both its Riyadh and Jeddah locations, shabu-shabu night at Roka starts at 6pm every Wednesday. This experience is priced at SAR200 and includes a selection of vegetables, Wagyu beef, and dipping sauces, such as chilli-ginger, ponzu-wasabi, and sesame-ginger. Still feeling famished? Additional vegetables can be ordered for SAR30, and SAR50 for extra Wagyu beef.
Plus, good news for diners at Roka Riyadh – you can now enhance your shabu-shabu experience by enjoying the meal on the cosy terrace upstairs. Surrounded by lush greenery and serene cityscape views, the terrace creates the perfect setting for a relaxed evening under the stars.
