These are all the Riyadh Metro lines that are working right now

After years of waiting for the Riyadh Metro, this month, the project onboarded its first passengers. Divided into a few phases of opening, the metro is well on its way to reducing traffic in the city and making transport so much easier. These are all the Riyadh Metro lines to take right now.

Inaugurated by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on Friday November 27, the public transport project also features bus routes to and from stations too.

Riyadh Metro tickets and passes

The Riyadh Metro is expected to open in three phases, the first phases was launched on Sunday December 1, the second one, launched on Sunday December 15, and lastly Sunday January 5.

Currently, the metro will operate fully along three major lines: Al-Olaya and Al-Batha (blue line), King Khalid International Airport Road (yellow line), and the intersection of Abdulrahman Bin Auf Street with Sheikh Hassan Bin Hussein Street (purple line), and the most recently launched, are the lines along King Abdullah Road (red line) and King Abdulaziz Road (green line) which launched this Sunday (December 15). The line along Al-Madina Al-Munuwarah Road (orange line) will be launching on Sunday January 5.

The project has also already announced expansion plans. After the launch of the sixth line early next year, the seventh line of the Riyadh Metro is already garnering considerable interest, particularly because it plans to include routes to Qiddiya and Diriyah. According to Construction Week, the new plans span approximately 65 kilometres and feature 19 stations, 14 of which will be underground and five above ground.

The new line will then connect major new developments in the Kingdom such as Qiddiya Entertainment City, King Abdullah International Gardens, King Salman Park, New Murabba, Misk City and Diriyah Gate.
