February 22 marks Saudi Founding Day, an annual holiday established in 2022 to honour the Kingdom’s foundation and celebrate the rich history and heritage of the first establishment of Saudi Arabia.
The day is traditionally marked by major celebrations across the country, and one thing that everyone looks forward to is the drone shows. Details for this year’s drone show in Riyadh have just dropped, and here’s everything we know so far.

Happening on Saturday Feburary 22 at King Abdullah Financial District at 10pm, the drone show will create gorgeous visuals over the Riyadh skyline. As we commemorate the Kingdom’s deep-rooted history that spanned more than three centuries, here are a few ideas for you to make it extra meaningful for your family.
The decision to celebrate Saudi Founding Day on February 22 dates back three centuries, during the leadership of Imam Muhammad bin Saud, when he founded the first Saudi state in 1727 and established a political entity that achieved unity, stability, and prosperity. On that day, Diriyah became the capital of the first Saudi State.
Since Founding Day falls on Saturday February 22, for most of us it will be a long weekend meaning we’ll be enjoying a day off on Sunday February 23. After which, the next public holiday for us will be Eid Al-Fitr, which falls on either Saturday March 29 or Sunday March 30. Read the full list of public holidays in Saudi Arabia here.
