Mataf capacity increased to 107,000 pilgirms per hour for Hajj 2025

New gates have also been introduced for pilgrims…

With Hajj 2025 fast approaching, the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has announced major upgrades for the Mataf (Tawaf area). To accommodate the new Hajj 2025 capacity, the number of pilgrims per hour at the Mataf has been increased.

The new changes come as part of a comprehensive organisational plan at the Grand Mosque to ensure the complete safety of pilgrims and to provide a secure, comfortable environment with high-quality services.

The authority confirmed that the Mataf area is now equipped to accommodate up to 107,000 pilgrims per hour across multiple levels, including the ground floor, first floor, first mezzanine, second mezzanine, and rooftop. The total worshipper capacity across all levels has reached 203,000.

The entire Mataf area has been dedicated exclusively for the Tawaf, with several entrances allocated to facilitate access. Additional doors have been designated for services and emergency use to ensure full operational capacity, enabling pilgrims to perform their rituals safely.

The increased capacity comes as a result of a surge in international arrivals, with the General Directorate of Passports reporting that as of Friday, 890,883 pilgrims have entered Saudi Arabia in preparation for Hajj 2025. This includes 846,415 arrivals through airports, 41,646 via land crossings, and 2,822 by sea.
