KSA weather: Dust storms expected across Saudi Arabia until next week

Stay safe out there on the roads…

Looking out of the window at the moment, you’ll have noticed that Riyadh is currently going through a bit of a dusty spell – if you’ll pardon the understatement.

Unfortunately, it appears that we are in for the long haul, as Saudi Arabia’s weather department, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), has announced that dust storms will continue to affect several regions of Saudi Arabia from Monday until the start of next week.

As reported in the Saudi Gazette, winds are expected to remain active in the Eastern Province, eastern parts of Makkah, Madinah, and Asir, as well as in the Najran region and along the coastal road from Jeddah to Jazan.

How does it affect residents in Riyadh?

With parts of the Riyadh region affected, the NCM warned that the active winds may reduce visibility from 3 to 5 kilometres.

The governorates of Al-Sulayyil and Wadi Al-Dawasir in Riyadh Province will be affected by dust storms from 1am to 5pm, and Al-Aflaj from 3am to 5pm.

Meanwhile, the capital city of Riyadh and the governorates of Diriyah, Al-Kharj, Al-Hariq, Al-Dalam, Al-Muzahmiyya, and Hawtah Bani Tamim will be affected by dust storms from 5am to 5pm, as well as the governorates of Al-Dawadmi, Al-Rayn, Al-Quwayiyah, and Afif from 10am to 7pm.

It is also expected that the effects of the active winds will extend to parts of the Northern Borders, Al-Jouf, Hail, Al-Qassim, and Riyadh regions.

And if that isn’t enough, temperatures are significantly higher than they have been in recent weeks, with highs of 47 degrees Celsius expected to continue in the Eastern Province on Monday and Tuesday. It’s probably a good week to stay indoors…
