Saudi Arabia’s General Media of Media Regulation has just introduced a new collection of rules regarding social media posts. Major content restrictions have now been put in place on what users cannot post and how they present themselves online. This is everything to know about the Saudi social media rules.
Announced in an official statement, the new Saudi social rules ban material that could be considered bullying, mocking other people, or disclosing private family matters according to Gulf News.
The rules also state that posting content exploiting children or domestic workers as part of daily lifestyle posts is now prohibited. The rules also apply to posts spreading incorrect information, the use of obscene language, and extravagant displays of personal wealth, such as showcasing money, cars, or property, as well as boasting about lineage, tribe or regional identity.
The country has also released regulations about dressing. Outfits that are considered to be against general social values and content quality standards are now completely banned. This also includes clothing that exposes the body from shoulders to legs, tight outfits that accentuate the body, or sheer fabrics.
Huge fines will be imposed on anyone that violates the new rules, though right now, it’s not clear what the scale of the punishments or fines would be.
The move comes after new rules have been announced regarding ride-hailing, expat driving, new hotel rules and so much more, all in an effort to make Saudi Arabia a safer country.
