Power up your drive: 98-octane fuel arriving at gas stations soon

Drivers in Saudi Arabia can soon fuel up with the new 98-octane gasoline, designed for sports cars and high-performance engines

Get ready to rev your engines. Saudi Aramco is revving up the local fuel market with the launch of its new 98-octane petrol, scheduled to hit the market this month.

The move comes in response to local market needs identified by the Ministry of Energy, offering drivers, particularly sports car enthusiasts, a high-performance fuel option without disrupting existing products.

As part of the initial launch, the premium fuel will be available in Riyadh, Jeddah, and the Dammam metropolitan area, as well as along connecting highways, given that most vehicles requiring this fuel type are concentrated in these locations.

Any further expansion will depend on demand and usage patterns, ensuring supply meets actual market needs.

The new gasoline grade will be added to Aramco’s fuel portfolio without affecting existing fuel products, offering consumers additional options while responding to growing demand for specialised fuels, particularly for high-performance vehicles.

New to 98-octane gasoline?

Think of it as premium fuel for more power, smoother acceleration, and better efficiency. Designed for vehicles requiring a higher octane rating, 98-octane petrol suits sports cars and high-performance engines, ideal for drivers looking to maximise their ride.

The number 98 represents the fuel’s Research Octane Number (RON – a system to classify gasoline), which reflects how well gasoline resists self-ignition when subjected to increased pressure during combustion.

However, according to Saudi Fuel, using a higher octane fuel than required does not automatically improve performance in standard engines.

Drivers unsure which fuel to use are advised to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations rather than choosing a fuel based solely on octane rating.

How much will 98-octane cost?

Saudi Aramco confirmed that the retail price for the new fuel will be published on its website in the retail fuel sales section at the time of its launch. The price will be reviewed periodically in accordance with official pricing governance procedures.
