The KAFD monorail plans have just been revealed
The monorail is set to take over 3.6 kilometres
First re-announced back in August 2025, the KAFD monorail plans are moving full speed ahead. The fully-electric, autonomous monorail system is set to become a district-wide transport network linking offices, residential areas, retail spaces, and visitor destinations across KAFD.
According to Saudi Gazette, the KAFD monorail plans feature six stations that connect the entire district in 11 minutes. The monorail system is expected to cater to more than 50,000 passengers every day.

The elevated track will run through the entirety of the district with six trains with two carriages each. Trains will be zooming through every three minutes to ensure continuous and efficient service.
The project was initially announced back in October 2024. The King Abdullah Financial District Development and Management Company (KAFD) monorail project was signed with a consortium of CRRC, CRRC Nanjing Puzhen, and Hassan Allam.
According to Faddy Al Aql, chief of project delivery at King Abdulaziz Financial District, “The design process for the vehicles and structural bridges for the monorail has already begun,” but the project remains in its early design stages.
He said the primary goal of the system is to provide seamless connectivity throughout the district for offices, residents, tenants, shops, and visitors. The tracks will run between the main towers of the district, and the system will be further connected to the Riyadh Metro, too.
The last report suggested that trial operation tests are scheduled to begin in early 2027, in preparation for the system to be operational and open to the public before the end of the same year.
The monorail will help reduce traffic congestion and support sustainable transportation. The project spotlights the importance of supporting smart and sustainable transportation systems within the King Abdullah Financial District to enable easy movement of employees and visitors. The project aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 to create more connected and efficient cities.
