The largest Riyadh Metro station is now open

The new station is in west Riyadh

The best is truly yet to come with the Riyadh Metro, and that was proven this past weekend when the largest Riyadh Metro station opened its doors in the west of Riyadh. All aboard the metro trains heading out of the Western Station.

Opening its doors on Friday May 15, the Western Station is one of the project’s iconic main stations, marking the completion of the metro’s four principal stations and further establishing one of the most prominent urban landmarks within the city’s public transportation network. The other principal stations include the King Abdullah Financial District Metro Station, STC Al Olaya Metro Station, and Qasr Al Hokm Metro Station.

Spanning a total area of 112,000 square metres, the station includes integrated facilities such as commercial spaces, a sensory garden, a mosque with a capacity for 550 worshippers, and various public amenities serving Riyadh residents according to a Saudi Gazette report.

The new station has earned an LEED Gold certification for design efficiency and environmental sustainability. The Western Station will be serving the Orange Line in the Dhahrat Al-Badiah quarter, southwest of Riyadh; it links the Jeddah station and Tuwaiq on the western end to Khashm Al-An on the eastern end. The new station follows regular Riyadh Metro timings, 5.30am to midnight and 10am to midnight on Friday. The Riyadh buses, on the other hand, operate daily from 5am until midnight

To make everyone’s lives easier, the site also includes public transport parking facilities with capacity for over 600 vehicles. The station is designed to accommodate more than 60,000 rail passengers per hour and 1,300 bus passengers per hour. This showcases the stations’s vital role as a major hub within the city’s public transport network and enhances connectivity between routes and key destinations across Riyadh.
