The viral dot cakes have officially landed in Riyadh

This is where to get them

New York’s viral dot cakes have been making their rounds all over social media, with nearly every influencer (foodie or not) either making them or buying them. And after weeks of seeing them all over our feeds, this is where you can get the viral dot cakes in Riyadh.

The trend, started by Dotcakes, a New York-based bakery founded by mother-daughter duo Sondra and Alex Posner, went off (a bit of Gen Z slang for you there) online for the signature sprinkle-covered dot cakes.

So, what exactly is a dot cake?

Fabulous question (if we do say so ourselves). It is a viral, single-serving cake-in-a-cup trend that features a layer of soft sponge cake (normally a classic flavor like vanilla, chocolate, red velvet, or funfetti), a thick layer of frosting (normally vanilla buttercream), and a top coating of small, spherical sprinkles. In New York, the original dot cakes retail for USD11 (SAR42) a pop and are known as ‘dotcups’.

How have they made their way to Riyadh?

This time around, the iconic new trend has been brought to Riyadh by none other than Saudi Arabia’s very own SoMatcha. Owned by the Kingdom’s sweetheart, Yara Namlah. It’s not just limited to the dot cake; here, you can also look forward to the dot matcha (a delicious matcha latte with cream and sprinkles) and the dot ice cream (vanilla soft serve topped with the coveted dots).

The highly sought-after dot cake (trust us, when we went, it was actually sold out) is made with fluffy vanilla cake, cream and sprinkles, making for the picture-perfect Instagram shot. The new menu drops are now available across all SoMatcha branches, but be sure to grab them before they’re sold out.
