What King Fahad Sports City Stadium is going to look like once it's ready

Coming soon…

As the Kingdom prepares to welcome the FIFA World Cup 2034, the King Fahad Sports City Stadium is being transformed into an iconic stadium with a simple goal of providing the tournament with an amazing viewing experience. Here’s what we know about the new transformation.

Opened in 1987, King Fahad Sports City Stadium was the first major stadium of its kind in the region and quickly became a symbol of Saudi Arabian sport and, in later years, entertainment. The stadium has hosted a BTS concert as part of the band’s Love Yourself: Speak Yourself World Tour on 11 October 2019 and WWE’s event Crown Jewel on 31 October 2019.  The new renovation preserves the stadium’s status as a national landmark while still adapting it to meet the demands of contemporary sport and entertainment.

A major component of the project is the expansion of the stadium’s capacity through the creation of a new lower seating tier. Once ready, the stadium will be able to accommodate up to 70,000 people

The wider development will introduce a range of new community-focused facilities, including a football academy, sports centre, amphitheatre, fan zone, five-a-side football pitches, footgolf course and commercial destinations.

By combining innovative sustainability strategies with a comprehensive programme of renewal, the project will ensure that one of Saudi Arabia’s most beloved sporting venues continues to create memorable experiences for generations to come.

The newly refurbished stadium will also feature upgraded media, operational and hospitality facilities that will ensure the stadium meets the highest international standards for major tournaments and entertainment events. The King Fahd Sports City Stadium is one of 15 stadiums being built or updated for the 2034 World Cup.
