Will Saudi Arabia be hosting the World Expo 2030?
The Royal Commission for Riyadh City will lead Saudi’s bid for the World Expo 2030…
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has announced the Kingdom’s intention to bid to host the Expo 2030 in Riyadh.
The Kingdom has formally submitted the request to the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), the World Expo’s organising body.
Expo 2030 is slated to be held from October 1, 2030, to April 1, 2031. The theme proposed by Saudi Arabia is “The era of change: Leading the planet to a foresighted tomorrow.”
The BIE has closed the candidature period for World #Expo2030, with five countries having submitted candidatures. The project examination phase will now begin, with the host country to be elected by Member States in 2023

Additional details of the bid proposal are expected to be submitted to the BIE in Paris this December.
Saudi Arabia is the latest country to submit a request after Italy, Russia, South Korea, and Ukraine.
A vision for peace and human progress
According to the Crown Prince, Expo 2030 would coincide with the culmination of Vision 2030 – the Kingdom’s decade-long and multifaceted strategy to reduce its reliance on oil revenues, diversify its economy, and improve public service sectors.
He added that the World Expo 2030 would serve as an extraordinary opportunity to share our lessons from this unprecedented transformation with the world, Saudi Press Agency reported.
“We live in an era of change, and we face an unprecedented need for humanity’s collective action,” the Crown Prince said in his letter to BIE’s secretary-general Dimitri Kerkentzes.
“It is clear that the whole world, as a collective, needs to work together to foresee the future and address, with its brightest minds, the challenges and opportunities that emanate from this change.”
World Expos, a global gathering of nations
Saudi Arabia’s first World Expo participation was at Expo 1958 in Brussels, and it has actively participated in World and Specialised Expos ever since.
