Saudi Arabia qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2022

The Green Falcons qualified before their one-all draw against China…

Saudi Arabia have successfully qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2022. Fondly known as the Green Falcons, the Saudi National Team qualified on Thursday before playing their match, after Japan beat Australia 2 – 0 in Sydney to go top of the Group B leaderboard.

Later on Thursday, Saudi Arabia took on China in Sharjah, with Saudi Arabia dominating possession and going 1 – 0 up after Saleh Al-Shehri scored a late goal in the first half. China equalised in the 82nd minute when Zhu Chenjie scored, with the final score one-all.

But despite their draw, the Saudi National Team are still guaranteed to play in the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, as the top two qualifiers from each group automatically go through. Japan will qualify first, with Saudi Arabia qualifying second.

Saudi Arabia still have one match to play in the Group B standings, and will take on Australia on Tuesday March 29 at 9pm KSA time at Jeddah’s King Abdullah Sports City stadium. However, regardless of the outcome, Saudi Arabia are assured a place in the FIFA World Cup tournament, as they’re already five points clear of third place Australia.

Australia could still secure themselves a slot in the World Cup, although they will have to compete for that playoff spot, against a yet to be decided team, in June.

In the nine matches Saudi Arabia have played during the third round of FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifying, they’ve won six, drawn twice and lost only once. Who the Saudi National Team will play remains undecided, and the team selection for each group in the World Cup won’t happen until early April.
