Check out Hayy Jameel’s exciting summer programme
Paint the town…
If you’re after your next culture fix, then head over to Jeddah’s Hayy Jameel, which is a one-stop shop for all things arts related. The multipurpose arts space has just revealed its summer programme, and we are buzzing with excitement as there are new exhibitions, commissions, artist residences and an interactive creative space for children.
The Distance from Here, a group exhibition that is part of the Art Jameel Collection, will be coming to Saudi Arabia. An iteration of the exhibition was originally in Dubai’s Jameel Arts Centre, and is now coming to the kingdom for the first time. The exhibition runs from June 8 to October 25 and will bring together 20 international as well as local artists.
The Distance from Here focuses on the idea of transition – both physical and metaphorical – when it comes to arts in country. Get ready to be wowed by a wide range of mediums, from installations to photography. Plus, if you want to explore the themes, there will be artistic talks and workshops.

Art Jameel is an independent organisation that is all about bigging up artists and creative communities. The Saudi artist Sarah Brahim is developing a performative work related to the theme, and Filwa Nazer is the artist in residence at Hayy Studios during the exhibition.
Hayy Jameel is not just cooking up a storm in its galleries, but also the kitchen, as it has launched Aysh Academy – a programme that will be offering bakery workshops and culinary classes.
In autumn, there are new initiatives launching, too. Little ones will love the aptly named Little Hayy, which will be an interactive space where you can drop off your kids. There will be a children’s arts zone, which will run special events.
Later in the year, ATHR, AlComedy Club, Al Mohtaraf, Homegrown, Riwaq Dahr and Sofia’s Dining are also planned. Translated: culture, comedy and cakes. Sign us up.
