Escape the heat and head to Abha Summer Festival
To the mountains, we go…
The summer temperatures sure can get brutal. So, how about heading to the capital of Saudi Arabia’s renowned Aseer region for the Abha Summer Festival?
Known for its beautiful mountains, dense forests, and cool temperatures (20 to 29 degrees Celsius is the average), it is no surprise that residents have been flocking to the cool highlands of Abha to escape the soaring heat.
Moreover, with the Abha Summer Festival underway, that’s something that makes this culturally rich capital of Aseer especially attractive for the whole family.
Held at the outdoor Sama Abha Park, the festival is set to run through summer until September 24, 2022. It is held under the slogan “Above the Mountains” and comprises six entertainment areas spanning over 126,000 square meters.
There are various programs and events, including Aseer’s glorious assembly of harvest bounty at the local farms’ market; carnivals and adventures; a children’s play area; a shopping and retail space; an arts and entertainment village; and the Mifana zone, where you can indulge in local dishes.
You can also look forward to some music in the misty mountains as the festival brings a variety of performances by popular and emerging artists on the Blue Stage.

Visitors arriving by car will also have access to a 2,000-car parking lot opposite the venue, a 3,000-car parking lot at King Khalid University, and a 400-car parking lot for senior citizens. Alternatively, there are shuttle bus services to and from the event.
And while you’re there for the festival, we recommend that you take the chance to learn more about the local region, which is considered unique to other parts of Saudi Arabia. This includes exploring the three famous heritage sites: the archaeological village of Rijal Almaa, the ancient sites of Jarash, and the Heritage House in Al-Namas.
The direct flight from Riyadh to Abha is one hour and 40 minutes, while it takes 20 minutes lesser to fly direct from Jeddah to Abha.
