Hilos (Threads) is a new exhibition at Ahlam Studio Gallery featuring traditional textiles from Mexico and Saudi Arabia. The collaboration is in celebration of Mexico (September 16) and Saudi Arabia (September 23) National Day to bring the two rich cultures together. Expect visually striking pieces that will have you wonder about the creative power behind a usually looked-over fabric like threads.

Veer for the dining counter and watch as the chefs prepare dishes like paper-thin yellowtail sashimi with truffle yuzu dressing; the oh-so-delicious black cod miso; and plenty of skewers; sushi and crispy tempura. Also known as Al Zel Souq, the Deerah Souq is located in the old part of the city near the Al Masmak Fort. Think bustling narrow streets and colourful displays of products ranging from carpets, gold, silver, souvenirs, traditional clothes and props, antiques, and even furniture. Here’s a tip: Hop from shop to shop and don’t forget to bargain.
