10 cool things to do in Riyadh this week: October 17 to 20

A whole new week with plenty of things to do…

Here are 10 cool things to do in Riyadh this week.

Check out our list below, where we have listed an art exhibition, a new menu, things to see and do at the launch of Riyadh Season, and much more.

Sunday October 17

1. Check out the Bienalsur Contemporary Art Exhibition in JAX, Diriyah

The International Biennial of Contemporary Art of the South, organised by the National University of Tres de Febrero (UNTREF) in Argentina, returns to Saudi Arabia with the exhibition “Echoes: A World Between Analogue & Virtual”. The exhibition presents an interactive and poetic exhibition dedicated to new ways of experiencing reality, curated by Diana Wechsler and featuring more than 20 artists (including five Saudi artists) from 14 countries. You’ll enjoy analysing thoughts from memory, history, and the inclusion of past and present imaginaries in video installations and through photographs.

2. Have dinner at Mamo Michelangelo and get a chance to meet Mamo

Looking for one of the best Provençal and Italian cuisines in Riyadh? Mamo Michelangelo Restaurant in the Al-Faisaliah Tower is the place to go. Our favourites from the menu include the delicious Burrata, lamb shoulder perfectly cooked in the wood-fired oven, as well as signature dishes such as truffle focaccia and truffle ravioli. Don’t forget to order the decadent tiramisu for dessert, too. Oh, and if you’re in luck, you’ll also get the chance to say “Hi” to Mr Mamo himself – the restaurant’s creator who’s also a brilliant artist and chef. It’s his last night in town, so take this chance to meet him.

Mamo Michelangelo Restaurant, King Fahd Rd, Al Olaya, Riyadh 12212, daily 12.30pm to 11.30pm. Tel: 9200 00874. @mamomichelangeloksa

Tom Hardy returns to the big screen as Venom’s lethal protector, one of Marvel’s greatest and most complex characters. With tons of action, fun fight scenes, and plenty of comedy, “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” gives fans everything you’ll be looking for – plus a can’t-miss post-credits surprise.

4. Shop at the Tory Burch pop-up

Open at Riyadh Park through October 27, a Tory Burch pop-up shop puts the designer’s autumn/winter 2021-22 collection on display. The temporary space stocks ready-to-wear, handbags, footwear, and jewellery, including the iconic Lee Radziwill double bag. The shop also launches new items, including the Good Luck trainer and the best-selling T Monogram collection of shoes and handbags. We love that the pop-up comes with a unique digital experience, including access to exclusive products on the brand’s e-commerce site and an engaging game that allows players to customise their handbag silhouette and colourway.

The next time you hit up Yauatcha, be sure to snag the new bao menu. What’s a bao, you may ask? It’s not a taco nor a wrap. Instead, they’re soft, airy steamed buns. And Yauatcha is now serving up those pillowy white comforting buns filled with delectable proteins. Our pick is the spicy soft-shell crab bao, but the smoked wagyu beef, crispy aromatic duck, and crisp lemon chicken versions are also delish. So, why not fill yourself to the brim and order one of each?

Yauatcha Riyadh, Mode Al Faisaliah, Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Rd, Al Olaya, Riyadh 11433, daily noon to 11.30pm. Tel: 9200 06555. @yauatchariyadh
