6 reasons to visit Aramco Saudi Ladies International 2022

Look forward to a free day of entertainment on and off the course…

King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) will host the third edition of the Aramco Saudi Ladies International golf tournament presented by the Public Investment Fund from March 17 to 20.

Royal Greens

The $1 million event, which is part of the Ladies European Tour, will be held at the Royal Greens Golf & Country Club, the premier 18-hole championship golf course and clubhouse at KAEC, with views of the Red Sea coast as its natural backdrop.

There is plenty to attract sports fans and casual observers this weekend, with major attractions on the course and off it. Here are six reasons why you should visit Aramco Saudi Ladies International 2022.

1. Leading women golfers

Led by Major-winners and Solheim Cup stars Anna Nordqvist (NOR), Georgia Hall (ENG), Carlota Ciganda (ESP), and Bronte Law (ENG), the field teeing it up at Royal Greens Golf & Country Club this weekend is stacked with a host of exciting young players from 27 different countries forecast to cement their status in world golf this year.

Australian Stephanie Kyriacou is one of them, who, at 21 years old, already has three career titles to her name – and is now a holder of both LET and LPGA Tour cards. Ten top ten finishes in 2021, including a tie for ninth at this same event last year, firmly position Kyriacou as a favourite for this week.

Pia Babnik of Slovenia won the R&A Girls Amateur Championship in 2019, joining the Ladies European Tour a year later at just 16 years old. Last November, she claimed what was the second Tour title of her young career at Royal Greens, with victory in the individual category of the Aramco Team Series – Jeddah.  Now, aged 18, she returns to the course, seeking her third professional win.

Defending champion Lydia Ko was forced to withdraw earlier this week after testing positive for Covid-19. Still, with the tournament’s 2020 maiden champion Emily Kristine Pedersen – plus international stars Angel Yin, Laura Davies and Anne van Dam – all part of the stellar line-up, it’s all to play for.

2. Arabs represent

This weekend’s tournament will welcome three Arabic players – the most of any Ladies European Tour event in history, and all from Morocco.

Saudi fan-favourite Maha Haddioui will be joined by Ines Laklalech and Lina Belmati, both of whom will be making their professional debuts.

3. Family-friendly fun

Enjoy the various activities, including free introductory golf lessons, long putt challenge, mini-golf, and live music. Attendees can also explore the different zones for engagement and leisure, including the selfie hotspots, Aramco Energy Zone, Golf Performance Zone, and the food trucks serving a range of delicious delicacies.

4. Free admission

Tickets for the Aramco Saudi Ladies International are free for spectators over all four days from 8am to 9pm and can be secured by registering online. With a ticket, all attendees can enjoy the golf from close-up, all the fun that’s to be had in the tournament’s fan village and Aramco Energy Zone.

5. First-ever Ladies Day on March 18

The tournament will hold its first ladies’ day on Friday March 18, with activities for women and girls, including free golf clinics led by LET professionals, as well as the chance to meet some of the biggest stars in women’s golf and motivational Saudi females, including fitness influencer and YouTube star, ‘It’s Always Hana’.

Introductory golf coaching schools will be run throughout the day on the course’s driving range, where the competing players themselves will warm up before taking to the course. Running from 2pm, the sessions will provide beginners tips and guidance for any women and girls wishing to get into the sport or learn more about it.

Following this, lunch will be organised at the tournament’s fan zone, and you’ll get to take selfies with some of the world’s best female golfers and live golf.

The day will culminate with attendees being escorted to Royal Greens Golf & Country Club’s iconic 16th hole – dubbed as one of the most beautiful holes in golf by the world’s best golfers – on a range of luxury 12-seater golf buggies for photos and refreshments over sunset. There will also be a ‘Ladies First Fashion Show’ at the tournament’s Aramco Energy Zone following play, finishing for the day.
