Saudi Arabia will be only the sixth host of the competition since its inception in 2000. The event was last held in Morocco and the UAE in 2020 and 2021. Brazil, Japan, and Qatar have also hosted the international sporting event in previous years.
The tournament’s opening round will see New Zealand’s Auckland City facing off against Al-Ittihad on December 12 at the King Abdullah Sports City stadium in Jeddah.
The winner will advance to face African champion Al Ahly of Egypt in the second round for a place in the semi-finals against the champion of South America.
