Step inside Imagine Monet, a new immersive exhibition in Jeddah

More than 200 paintings by Claude Monet will be on exhibit at the one-of-a-kind ‘Imagine Monet’, a limited-time event running through July 28…

It seems that the public appetite for immersive entertainment in Saudi Arabia hasn’t been limited to shows dedicated to Pablo Picasso (which happened back in February in Riyadh) and the all-new teamLab Borderless digital art museum in Jeddah.

Soon, there will be an immersive Claude Monet show, where you can experience the works of the impressionist master in enveloping, 360-degree art exhibits.

‘Imagine Monet’ opens on Friday June 28 and will run until Sunday July 28 at the Jeddah Corniche, as part of the Jeddah Season 2024 festival.

The temporary exhibition in Jeddah will be the largest immersive experience of its kind in the country. Visitors can expect to see pieces like Poppies, Impression: Sunrise, and Monet’s Water Lilies series.

Perhaps most celebrated for his dreamy water lily paintings, Monet was born in Paris to French grocers in 1840 and raised in France’s coastal province of Normandy. After mentoring under Eugène Boudin and dedicating himself to painting the world as he saw it, Monet became the founding father of impressionism – a revolutionary artistic movement that began in the late 1800s that emphasised painting en plein air (aka painting outside) and the use of copious colour to convey an artistic scene and capture raw emotion.

Art lovers can experience Monet as never before

As you enter the expansive room dedicated to the exhibit, your senses will be awakened in more than one way, as pastel colours and classical music enrobe you and draw you right into the heart of each painting.

This experience will feature over 200 well-known masterpieces by Claude Monet during his lifetime, including a series of cathedrals and the water lilies from Monet’s garden in Giverny, among others.

The full-scale projections on the walls and floors will place visitors directly into Monet’s artwork, creating the experience of walking among the brushstrokes of pieces like Water Lilies. And thanks to state-of-the-art technology, ‘Imagine Monet’ fills the space and viewers are completely immersed in a universe of images, with total freedom to wander and explore their surroundings.
