Ready, steady, go: Gear up for the return of the Kingdom Duathlon
The run-bike-run race returns to Riyadh over the Saudi National Day holidays…
Not a swimmer? No problem. The Kingdom Duathlon – that’s run, bike, run, for the uninitiated – returns to Riyadh this month, and it’s set to be a cracker.
The second staging of the event by Race Arabia will take place during the Saudi National Day holidays on Sunday September 22 and Monday September 23. Prepare to push your limits as you navigate the picturesque grounds of King Abdulaziz Equestrian Field, sponsored by the Jockey Club of Saudi Arabia.
Whether you’re a seasoned athlete seeking a new challenge, a beginner looking to embrace the thrill of duathlon racing, or just coming along to show support, here’s everything you need to know about the Kingdom Duathlon 2024.
What distances are there to choose from?
Choose between the 3-kilometre Saudi National Day Fun Run on Day 1 or the Singles Sprint Duathlon (5-kilometre run, 20-kilometre bike, 2.5-kilometre run) on Day 2 for an adrenaline-fuelled race.
Not ready to do it alone? If camaraderie is your game, grab your mates and join the new Team Relay Sprint Duathlon (5-kilometre run, 20-kilometre bike, 2.5-kilometre run) category on Day 2, where two-person teams can share the thrill.
Got children who would love a junior trail race? The duathlon race will kick off Day 1 with a children’s race in three different age categories.
For those aged eight to ten, there’s a race starting at 7.45am, consisting of a 1-kilometre run, followed by a 4-kilometre bike ride, and finishing with a 500-metre run.
And for those aged 11 to 14, the event, which starts at 8.45am, will see participants run 2 kilometres before taking on an 8-kilometre cycle and ending the race with a 600-metre run.
This year’s Kingdom Duathlon has also introduced another exciting new category: the Under-8 Kids Duathlon. Starting at 7am, the race will feature a 500-metre run, 1-kilometre cycle, 250-metre run format.
