Hydrogen-powered cars racing through the desert? Yes, it’s happening again.
The FIA Extreme H World Cup is officially returning to Qiddiya City from Thursday October 29 to Saturday October 31, bringing another weekend of high-speed off-road racing to Saudi Arabia’s ever-growing entertainment and motorsport scene.
Here’s what we know so far about the second instalment of the FIA Extreme H World Cup.
Set against the dramatic backdrop of Qiddiya City, the futuristic racing series is unlike anything else on the motorsport calendar.
Extreme H is the world’s first and only hydrogen-powered motorsport World Cup, combining sustainability, cutting-edge technology, and edge-of-your-seat racing.
The event returns as Qiddiya City continues its rapid transformation into one of Saudi Arabia’s most ambitious entertainment, sports and cultural destinations.
Since the inaugural race, the giga-project has welcomed major openings, including Six Flags Qiddiya City and Aquarabia, while construction continues on the highly anticipated Speed Park Track and an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Sir Nick Faldo.
The three-day event will once again feature the multi-disciplinary format that has made Extreme H one of motorsport’s most compelling propositions. Time Trials will see teams post precision course runs to secure vital seeding positions, before a knockout series of Head-to-Head duels in the ultimate test of nerve.
Last year’s race famously ended with just 0.082 seconds separating victory from defeat.
The competition then builds to its climax through intense wheel-to-wheel racing, culminating in a spectacular eight-car World Cup Final where strategy, composure, and raw speed will determine the champions.
Another standout? The championship remains the only motorsport series in the world where male and female drivers compete on equal terms for the same title.
All eyes will also be on defending champions Kevin Hansen and Molly Taylor, who secured victory for Jameel Motorsport at the inaugural event in Saudi Arabia last year.
