The Red Sea is getting its own marathon

Lace up those trainers…

You’ve likely heard of the popular Riyadh Marathon, and we’re happy to announce Jeddah is getting its very own one. The Red Sea Marathon will be happening early next year.

Announced at a press conference in Jeddah by the Saudi Arabian Athletic Federation early this morning, the marathon will be happening on Saturday January 18, 2025.

According to Arab News, the federation expects 10,000 local and international runners to take part in the race.

Four categories will be available for runners including the full marathon (42.2 km) for professional and amateur runners, a half marathon (21.1 km) for avid runners, a 10-km race for those aged 17 and above, and a 4-km race for beginners and children.

Once registration is complete, the Saudi Arabian Athletic Federation will invite some of the world’s top marathon runners — women and men — to participate in the “elite field.”

The marathon will be happening on an annual basis and will offer a significant prize purse for professional runners, which will likely attract international and regional athletes, including many of Saudi Arabia’s very own.

The marathon route for the Red Sea Marathon is a spectacular and challenging circular course which runs across the stunning corniche.

The new marathon is set to follow in the footsteps of the massively popular Riyadh Marathon that happens every year, the most recent one being in February 2024 and featured 20,000 people.
