Take a look at the first five-star luxury train in the Middle East
Next stop: Luxury…
Bringing a slice of class to travel in Saudi Arabia, the Dream of the Desert train was first announced back in January last year and became the talking point of domestic travel (possibly second only to the Riyadh Metro).
The Saudi Arabian Railways, together with Italian hospitality company Arsenale, have now revealed the final designs of what the luxury train will look like. Setting out to redefine luxury rail travel in the region, the final designs are inspired by the beautiful desert landscape and traditional Saudi architecture.
Seamlessly blending contemporary opulence with the rich cultural heritage of Saudi Arabia, the interiors feature refined craftsmanship with earthy tones, luxurious textiles, and intricate decorative details.
Design elements draw inspiration from iconic Saudi landmarks, including Madain Saleh and Haʼil, which are thoughtfully incorporated into the train’s design, offering passengers a visually and culturally enriching journey.
Designed as a moving five-star destination, the train consists of 14 carriages housing 34 luxury suites. each meticulously crafted to reflect the essence of Saudi Arabia.
Its elegant reception lounges are inspired by traditional Majlis settings, adorned with delicately hand-carved wooden elements and geometric patterns that embody the warmth of Saudi hospitality.
Passengers onboard the luxury train will also be immersed in the Kingdom’s artistic heritage, with carefully curated art pieces and photography showcased throughout the train’s hallways, showcasing Saudi Arabia’s cultural and natural landmarks. The onboard dining experience combines heritage and sophistication, featuring a menu crafted in collaboration with top local and international chefs.
Expected to be functional by the end of Q3 2026, according to the CEO of Arsenale Group, Paolo Barletta, the Dream of the Desert is a project that’s currently under construction by Saudi Arabian Railways, the Ministry of Culture, and the Saudi Tourism Authority.
