Saudi Arabia to expand its railway system by 50 per cent

Saudi Arabia is making big moves in travel (domestically), and we already know this by way of new airports, the Riyadh Metro launching, and now the Saudi railway is getting a massive upgrade too. This is everything you need to know about the Saudi railway news.

According to Saudi Gazette, Saudi Arabia aims to double the transport and logistics sector’s contribution to GDP, expand its railway network by over 50 per cent. While the airport capacity is to be increased to more than double.

The news was revealed to the public by the Minister of Transport and Logistics Services, Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser, during a ministerial session titled “Shaping the Future of Transport: People, Technology, and Policy” as part of the Global Aviation and Maritime Transport Summit.

Al-Jasser has also highlighted that there are continuous initiatives to create logistic zones and improve multimodal integration by tying transport systems to digital infrastructure and customs, which will increase service effectiveness and coverage across the country.

He mentioned the impending land bridge project, which will shortly provide train access to King Abdulaziz International Airport. Saudi Arabia is constructing a fully integrated logistics model that integrates technology, strategy, and infrastructure in order to fortify global alliances and future-proof the industry.
