Why everyone is unlocking Snapchat's Snap Souq this Ramadan
Snapchat introduces its first-ever Snap Souq, an augmented reality experience that lets you unlock a Najdi-inspired marketplace straight from your camera
Post-Iftar plans during Ramadan may sometimes involve a little wandering – soaking up the lights, the atmosphere, and those unexpected finds. And this year, that familiar stroll through a traditional souq has taken a digital turn.
Snapchat has launched Snap Souq, Saudi Arabia’s first augmented-reality (AR) souq experience, and it might be the most entertaining thing you’ll unlock on your phone this Ramadan.

Instead of just passively scrolling, Snapchatters are invited to step inside a virtual marketplace through the Snapchat camera. It’s inspired by local architecture, traditional souqs, and the spirit of togetherness that defines Ramadan.
At the heart of the experience is a digital key that unlocks access to a Saudi-inspired souq.
One tap later, and you are transported from a Selfie Lens into an immersive world shaped by architectural details and visual elements drawn from Najdi heritage.
More than a conventional shopping destination
The Snap Souq features digital kiosks, playful interactions, and brands waiting to be explored. It pretty much captures everything you’d expect from a traditional Saudi souq, only reimagined in digital form.
Plus, we all know Ramadan is peak inspiration season. New outfits. Eid prep. Beauty refreshes. Gift hunting.
And Snapchat knows it: 7 in 10 Snapchatters turn to the platform for inspiration during Ramadan, with 84 per cent of users in Saudi Arabia expressing interest in using AR to engage with products before purchase.
Snap Souq taps right into that ritual of discovery, bringing together a curated selection of brands, from NiceOne’s perfumes and oud to Abdul Latif Jameel for automotive, alongside beauty destinations Rama Clinics and Stars Smile.
So, it’s part entertainment, part exploration.
Ready to unlock it?
Snapchatters can experience the Snap Souq through the Lens Explorer and carousel feature on Snapchat throughout Ramadan and into the first week of Eid Al-Fitr.
After all, who says wandering through a souq requires traffic, parking or leaving your cosy Ramadan nest?
