How is the Eid Al-Fitr prayer performed?
The Eid prayer contains additional takbeerat (declarations of “Allahu Akbar”) and two rak’ahs (units of prayer). Following the opening takbeer and before Surah Al-Fatiha, seven takbeerat are recited in the first rak’ah. Five takbeerat are recited in the second rak’ah following the rise from sujood and prior to the subsequent recitation. There is no adhan (call to prayer) during the prayer, and a khutbah (sermon) that emphasises the virtues of Eid—appreciation, selflessness, and communal harmony—follows.
What happens on Eid Morning?
On Eid morning, Muslims across Saudi Arabia wake early, dress their best, and head to mosques for prayer. From dawn, the air fills with the sound of takbir until the Eid prayer begins shortly after sunrise. A brief sermon follows, and then the celebrations begin with family visits and shared meals.
