The Saudi Cup 2020 horse race is coming to Saudi Arabia this February
Horse racing fans, this one’s for you…
Calling all horse racing fans, a brand new event is coming to Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Cup 2020 is set to be one of the world’s richest horse racing tournaments and it’s the first time it will ever take place in the country.
It all kicks off on Saturday, February 29 2020 at the King Abdulaziz Racetrack and will go on for two days. When we say it’s going to be one of the world’s richest horse races, we mean it, as a $20 million prize pot has been announced. Fourteen horses and their jockey’s will be vying for the winning spot.
The winning horse will earn a $10 million prize, whilst the second will receive a $3.5 million prize, with the rest going to the rest of the field. We bet it’ll make for nail-biting viewing as they battle it out on the 1800-metre long track which will be contested over nine furlongs.
HRH Prince Bandar bin Khalid Al Faisal, Chairman, Jockey Club Of Saudi Arabia said of the event, “We’re putting on the SAUDI CUP in the hope that people who love horses and racing around the world might come and take a closer look at our culture and our country: explore a place they’d never thought of visiting and perhaps see it anew.”
Famous Italian jokey, Frankie Dettori said of the race, “I’ve been going to King Abdulaziz Racetrack ever since it opened. Of all the dirt tracks I’ve ridden, it’s the one I like best, as you can win the front, and you can win from behind – it’s a fair track”.
The Saudi Cup 2020 is the latest in a string of potential big sporting events that have been announced in Saudi Arabia. The country just hosted the European Tour’s Saudi International Golf Tournament in January, and there’s been whispers of a possible F1 race coming to Saudi Arabia in 2021.
