Ever tried purple dim sum? Head to Yauatcha to savour this delight

Yauatcha Riyadh launches its new menu of creatively presented, colourful dim sum offerings…

When it comes to comfort food, nothing quite beats the appeal of dim sum (dumplings). And Yauatcha has gained a reputation in the capital city as one of the swishest dim sum spots in town.

Out to serve up some tip-top dim sum, the all-day teahouse has unveiled a line-up of pretty dumplings that come in different colours and flavours.

A season of colour

The new menu sees Yauatcha’s head chef Stanley Lum reimagines dim sum with a quirky, colourful twist. Not a commonly used phrase to describe your typical dim sum, but it reflects the warmer days with flavours that balance clean, crisp spices and seasoning.

New additions to the steamed dim sum menu consist of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and indigo dumplings. Yes, you read that right…

These coloured delights are not only immensely appetising to the eyes but the palate as well.

After all, it is said that we should add colour to our plate each day for good nutrition, and what better way to have these dim sum come in the colours of a rainbow served in a piping, hot bamboo steamer.

Aside from the restaurant’s vibrant coloured dim sum, there’s a distinct emphasis here on fresh, quality ingredients to ensure a palatable experience for diners. So, grab a chopstick and dig into these dainty morsels.

The yellow dumpling has a Shanghai-style tender minced chicken filling, while the blue dim sum comes with a generous filling of bokchoy, chicken and prawn.

The orange dumpling is almost too wonderful to eat – plump morsel with cumin-infused lamb filling. Szechuan spice junkies can lay their hands on the red dumpling stuffed with sizzling Szechuan beef.

Also, not to be missed is the shocking naturally indigo steamed dumpling – the only seafood-stuffed dim sum infused with tantalising flavours of garlic and spinach.

Vegetarians have a couple of colourful options to choose from as well. There are mushrooms and pumpkin filling in the green dumpling, and truffle and sweet potato in the purple-wrapped skin. Such perfect bite-sized treats.
