If you’re someone who sketches out ideas for furniture – say, a sculptural chair that fits your shabby-chic aesthetic or a table you saw in Selling Sunset – we have exciting news for you. It’s time to unleash your design talents and submit your furniture design.
To support the growing local talent amongst the design community of Saudi Arabia, the modern home furnishing brand aura has teamed up with Saudi Design Festival for a country-wide furniture design competition.

Participants are tasked to design a mid-market priced upholstered chair or a table for use in a living room or formal reception room. The occasional furniture can feature a contemporary pattern suitable for placement and production on porcelain dinnerware, serveware and aura’s iconic Arabic coffee pots and cups.
The concept should incorporate aura’s core goals of blending international design with Arabic style and take into consideration one of aura’s three signature collections – Modern Classic, Contemporary, or Trend.
Here’s how you can enter
You will need to be over 18 and a resident in Saudi Arabia to enter this competition.
Simply submit an original design of concept sketches, renderings, colour references, swatches and third angle projection dimension drawings. Suggestions for the use of materials, colour, texture, and pattern are encouraged.
You should also explain your design, your inspirations and how it is conceived. Basically, the more information provided to communicate the design plan, the better.
With the submission period still open, here’s your chance to shine as the deadline is on April 10.

The winning designs will be unveiled on May 15. If you are one of the selected two winners, you’ll work with aura’s product development team to turn your idea into a full-fledged product. Your furniture will then be manufactured and retailed exclusively at the aura stores as part of the brand’s limited-edition retail collection for Autumn-Winter 2023.

The aura stores are available at Panorama Mall in Riyadh and Jeddah’s Red Sea Mall.
