Riyadh 2023 World Combat Games: The battle is about to begin

The battle on the ground is about to begin. Anticipation is steadily rising ahead of the third edition of the World Combat Games, set to take place from Friday October 20 to Monday October 30 in Riyadh. Taking place at the King Saud University Sports Arena, the tournament marks the first time the Middle East is hosting this global sports spectacle.

Meanwhile, the opening ceremony will be held on Thursday October 19 in the Green Hall at Prince Faisal bin Fahad Olympic Complex.

The World Combat Games 2023 will see more than 1,500 athletes from over 120 countries competing across 16 sports: aikido, arm wrestling, boxing, fencing, judo, ju-jitsu, karate, kendo, kickboxing, Muaythai, sambo, savate, sumo, taekwondo, wrestling and wushu.

The competition schedule

The tournament will kick off with boxing, karate and sambo bouts on October 20 and 21. Sumo and wushu competitions will take place on October 21 and 22, with judo matches lined up for October 23. Wrestling fans can anticipate electrifying matches from October 23 to 26.

WCG kickboxing

Ju-jitsu contests have been organised from October 24 to 26, with Aikido matches slated for October 24 and 25. Fencing and kickboxing fans will be able to witness enthralling contests from October 25 to October 27, arm wrestling on October 27 and 28, and kendo on October 29 and 30.

As the Riyadh 2023 World Combat Games draws to a close, the 11-day tournament will undoubtedly finish with thrilling competitions from Muaythai, savate and taekwondo from October 28 to 30.

Much more than just a sporting event

Fans will also be treated to an array of family-friendly activities. “The fan zones will be an immersive experience with sights, sounds, energy, and food, transporting people to another place entirely with the theme of combat sports on display throughout,” said Paul Hardy, chief operating officer for Riyadh 2023.

The best part? There will be free admission for the families of participating athletes, children under 12, senior citizens and others. Ticket kiosks will also be located at the King Saud University Stadium throughout the duration of the Games.
