Did you know the Eastern Province just got a new twin sea bridge?

The new road upgrades are designed to ease traffic across the Eastern Province

It looks like getting around the Eastern Province is now easier, faster, and safer, thanks to a major new infrastructure project. Eastern Province emir Prince Saud bin Nayef recently inaugurated the Safwa-Rahima Road, a new 15-kilometre route linking Safwa in Qatif with Ras Tanura, according to the Saudi Gazette.

The standout feature of the project? A 3.2-kilometre twin sea bridge, one of the longest of its kind in Saudi Arabia. Designed to shorten travel times and ease congestion, the bridge also supports the region’s growing economic and logistics activity.

Alongside the new road, intersections along the Dhahran-Buqayq-Abu Hadriyah highway have been upgraded, featuring five additional bridges, new lighting, and improved rainwater drainage. The new road and interchange upgrades aim to enhance traffic flow, improve road safety, and elevate the quality of life.

Commenting on the newly inaugurated sea bridge, Transport Minister Al-Jasser explained that it is more than just a convenience; it provides a direct route to Ras Tanura Port, streamlining travel and logistics for both residents and businesses.

By improving connectivity, the bridge helps make daily commutes faster and more reliable, while also supporting the flow of goods and services in the region.

Moreover, the road forms a key part of a modern network connecting Safwa and Ras Tanura to major routes, including the Dammam-Jubail Highway, enhancing accessibility across the Eastern Province.

The bridge will also deliver strong economic and social returns, serving the energy sector and improving mobility between two densely populated and industrially active areas. Furthermore, it will strengthen logistics services connected to Ras Tanura’s thriving oil industry.

That’s not all, though. The upgraded Dhahran-Buqayq-Abu Hadriyah intersections now include several new directional and service ramps. These improvements make it easier for traffic from Buqayq, King Abdulaziz Port, Bahrain, and Aramco’s Ajyal community, all aimed at reducing congestion, improving connectivity to reach key destinations efficiently, and enhancing the overall travel experience.
