King Salman International Airport: everything we know so far

The airport will cover 57 square kilometres…

Saudi Arabia is making big moves in travel and tourism, we know this, but right here in Riyadh, we’re getting a transformative, six-runway airport. And here are all the latest updates from King Salman International Airport.

Set to accommodate up to 120 million travellers by 2030, the new airport will have the capacity to process 180 million travellers and 3.5 million tonnes of cargo by 2050.

Architecture firm Foster + Partners has been appointed to design the airport’s expansive master plan, covering 57 square kilometres. There are set to be multiple terminals, six runways, and a multi-use real estate area, all designed to reflect Riyadh’s cultural identity, providing travellers with an authentic Saudi experience.

The flight terminal will also include 12-kilometre-square airport support facilities, residential and recreational facilities, and retail stores.

New updates

King Salman International Airport Development Company (KSIADC)  a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund (PIF), just cemented strategic partnerships with four industry-leading firms to transform King Salman International Airport (KSIA) into a haven of travel and tourism.

According to Saudi Gazette, global engineering powerhouse Jacobs will be focused on implementing the detailed design of the new runways and master plan consultancy. Mace, a leader in construction management, will be working on advanced planning and construction methodologies to ensure the project meets the highest standards. Nera, a Saudi company specializing in air traffic management solutions, will oversee the design of the airport’s airspace, utilizing cutting-edge technology to enhance operational efficiency.

Marco Mejia, Acting CEO of KSIADC, emphasized the importance of these partnerships: “We are committed to creating an airport that sets a new benchmark in global aviation. This project will be crucial in meeting Riyadh’s connectivity needs and driving the business, trade, and tourism objectives outlined in Vision 2030.”
